Work package 4 (Validation) will take the result of WP3, and use it to run simulations of in-stent restenosis.

These will be compared with the results of quantitative and semi-quantitative data obtained from in vivo experiment, with the aim of validating our complex system simulation. It should also validate the generic concepts as devised in WP2, based on the results of WP3 and the simulation runs in WP4. Finally, the effects of local delivery, distribution and anti-proliferative effect of a cytotoxic or antimitotic drug applied by means of a polymeric coating on the stent will be modelled to demonstrate the power of computer aided techniques in research to improve medical treatments. Links will be forged with other IST projects to seek wider applications for the generic framework.
